Here are the steps I took which worked for me:ġ) Bought a cheap Seagate 4GB usb external on sale.Ģ) Plugged the drive into my Ubuntu 12.10 home computer and ran "gparted". I don't know about others issues for I found the new Rasbian worked just fine. Ntfs-3g: Failed to access volume '/dev/sdb1': No such file or directory WARNING: GPT (GUID Partition Table) detected on '/dev/sdb'! The util fdisk doesn't support GPT. I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Using Fdisk -l and ntfs -3g the following messages are returned.

PS It doesn't appear that this issue is restricted to hdd >2Tb as I have tried a 2Tb hdd in the Dune and it cannot access that either and wants to format it.This I already tried and it doesn't work. There has been various advice provided suggesting that hdd > 2Tb can be formatted in the Dune and used successfully anywhere, but my experience suggests otherwise. However, I note other posters here, and on mpc club forum, who are having the same issues and it would be great if anyone knows a way around this seeming incompatibilty with the drive formats. Therefore I am considering leaving the 3Tb permanently in the Dune, occasionally attaching a usb caddy to the Dune with 'PC-formatted drives', or buying a NAS and using the extra hdds there. I am faced with a situation whereby I can only use this hdd in my Dune and if I wanted to swap other hdds in they would also have to be formatted in the Dune, and not used elsewhere. The Dune can recognise and access the hdd if it is placed in a usb caddy attached to it. If I format the hdd in my PC then the Dune can't access it and invites me to format it. I can attach the caddy to a Win7 PC and allocate a drive number there, however ((?!!)), after formatting.

I can't allocate a drive letter to it in Disk Management because all of the options are greyed out. I can format a 3Tb hdd in the Dune max and use it there successfully, but if I take it out and place it in a SilverStone usb caddy attached to my PC it is not recognised in Windows.
